Entering a Clinical Trial: Is it Right for You?

A new audiovisual program for patients considering cancer clinical trials.

Making a decision about joining a clinical trial is never easy for patients and their families. This 21-minute audiovisual program has been developed to help patients and their families understand what clinical trials are and what some of the risks and benefits of participation are. The program also provides strategies that might help them decide whether or not to enroll in a study.

The information found in the program is not intended to be a substitute for discussions between a patient and his or her health care providers. Any patient considering enrollment in a clinical trial is advised to consult his or her physician and clinical trials study team.

Dana-Farber Cancer Institute produced this program in collaboration with its Patient and Family Advisory Council and other institutional members of Dana-Farber/Harvard Cancer Center, including Brigham and Women's Hospital, Massachusetts General Hospital, and Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. The National Institutes of Health (NIH) Human Subjects Research Enhancements Program funded the development of the program.
